For ages 5-8 (grades K-3), Word Whiz takes ordinary flash cards to a whole new level. A hand-held, pocket-sized “electronic flash card,” Word Whiz asks, “How many words can you build in a minute?”
Suitable for any reading level:
Skill Level 1: Beginning letter sounds with two-letter word families
Skill Level 2: Beginning letter sounds and three-letter word families
Skill Level 3: Blends combined with two-and three-letter word families
After the timer begins, kids have sixty seconds to build as many words as they can. They choose from the left two buttons showing word beginnings, opting for the one that correctly fits the word family displayed on the right side. Correct and incorrect answers are greeted with appropriate sounds, so feedback is immediate. (A silent mode is also available.) The student’s score appears at the end of the one minute period.
(Bonus: An untimed mode, where unlimited word practice can happen without a 60-second limit.)
