Brand new from award-winning kids’ music band Recess Monkey is the album FLYING!
Three teachers, Jack Forman, Daron Henry, and Andrew Holloway, got together with their musical talents and created Recess Monkey, tuned into the topics that interest and intrigue kids of all ages.
Their refreshing, real-life lyrics cover things like boo-boos and band-aids, pretending to be a superhero, and playing with tools. Simple, everyday happenings in the life of a kid are musically celebrated, which is what makes this such a lovable album!
The music is pop-ish with some fun, subtle Latin influence thrown in, as well as bluegrass and jazz elements.
Here’s some more info about the album from the FLYING! album’s press release:
Kids’ music authority Stefan Shepherd (Zooglobble) has declared, ““Dan Zanes may be the godfather; They Might Be Giants, the legitimizer; and Laurie Berkner, Ralph Covert, and Justin Roberts the genre’s superstars. But Recess Monkey is the heart of kids’ music today.”
“Kindie” music favorites Chris Ballew/Caspar Babypants, Molly Ledford (Lunch Money), Justin Lansing (The Okee Dokee Brothers), Dean Jones (Dog on Fleas), Johnny Bregar, Tom Baisden (The Not-Its!) and Chris Wiser (Sugar Free Allstars) play superhero on FLYING! The album’s producer, Tor Hyams, launches flights of keyboard fancy on several tracks, and children’s author/illustrator Jarrett Krosoczka (Lunch Lady, Punk Farm) contributes FLYING’s stunning interior comic strip artwork, showing the world just how Recess Monkey became superheroes.
You can order Recess Monkey’s FLYING! from Amazon, CDBaby, and iTunes, as well as from their store online ($14.99).

I love that they have the lyrics on their site. My kids love to sing along and now that my oldest is starting to read, she would love to learn all the words by herself!
