Yet another classic by Beverly Cleary has been produced and presented in live-action (actually 3D stop-motion video) format by Scholastic! Runaway Ralph recently hit the store shelves and is a must-have for Cleary fans everywhere.
Runaway Ralph is the third film out by Scholastic about the insatiable and brave little mouse named Ralph, following The Mouse and the Motorcycle and Ralph S. Mouse.
In this episode, Ralph is growing tired of living in the crannies and crevices of Mountain View Inn and begins to long for adventures beyond its walls. He hops onto his motorcycle (which he has now become very good at handling) and seeks out excitement….but instead quickly finds himself trapped and caged at Happy Acres Summer Camp.
Your kids will relate to one of the camp attendees, Garfield, if they’ve ever felt homesick or like the odd one out. Garfield leans on Ralph’s friendship (and tiny yet clever skills) when an important decision to make arises.
This film, perfect for kids ages 3-8, stars memorable child actors such as Fred Savage, Sara Gilbert, and Kellie Martin. The original film production won an Emmy nomination and awards from the American Library Association and the Columbus Film Festival.
Also included on this DVD is a bonus story, Commander Toad in Space. It’s yet another live-action drama combining puppets/humans in toad costumes with live actors. Based on the book by Jane Yolen, it’s about a spaceship name Star Warts that has an important mission to complete.
Both stories combine to give your kids 60+ minutes of book-inspired entertainment. You can buy Runaway Ralph wherever your favorite Scholastic DVDs are sold, including directly from Scholastic/New Video, for $14.95.
