Want me to tell you about the CD that’s been on constant rotation in my car stereo for the past few weeks?
Uncle Rock’s The Big Picture, that’s what!
Uncle Rock is a singer, song writer, bassist, and author based in Woodstock, New York. He’s also known as Robert Burke Warren. Before his nephew dubbed him “Uncle Rock,” Robert Burke Warren performed as a bass player in many rock and roll bands, including international garage rock titans The Fleshtones. His rockabilly sound and storytale-like lyrical style is funky and groovy.
The Big Picture is his fourth family music release, and it’s a big hit here. The new CD, released last Tuesday from Jackpot Music, is obtainable just in time for Earth Day. Conveniently and obviously, it’s centered around ways we can keep our planet healthy and clean. There are topics embraced such as the importance of shopping locally, being mindful of where our trash goes, and the need for respect of animals and nature.
Uncle Rock is joined on this CD by his band, The Playthings, as well as a host of notable artists: On “There Is No Away,” Elizabeth Mitchell chimes in. Jane Scarpantoni (the cellist for Nirvana, Sheryl Crow, Natalie Merchant, and others) lends her talent to “There Is No Away” and “Very Good Question.”
(*You can download for free “There Is No Away” at Uncle Rock’s site.*)
My kids’ favorite? Hands down: “Garbage Barge.” The talk of all of the nasty trash dumped into the ocean makes them giggle at first, but I know that it also opens their eyes to the reality that everything we toss eventually ends up in our waters.
You can purchase Uncle Rock’s The Big Picture from CDBaby for $13.97 (or download the album for $9.99) or right from his website via Paypal.
