Rev up for reading with Reading Rods

I’d heard about Reading Rods by Learning Resources, but wasn’t sure how they worked. I was delighted to be able to try out their Reading Rods Phonics Activity Set with the kids, who are both eagerly learning letter sounds and early word formation.

Not that I was expecting anything less, but Learning Resources’ Reading Rods, like their other products, are exceptionally high in quality.

The Reading Rods Phonics Activity Set comes in a neat and tidy (and super sturdy) velcro-fastened case. The 108 Reading Rods are securely housed within a see-through plastic bag within the case. An activity tray is on the right side, complete with a dry-erase board for writing practice and the graduated levels to line up and assemble the Reading Rods and display the activity cards.
The light blue rods are consonant pictures (items beginning with that letter), and the dark pink rods are vowel picture rods. The darker blue and red rods are simply uppercase and lowercase consonants and letters. The rods are simple interlocking, color-coded manipulatives. They are excellent for children who are hands-on learners (as my son is)!
The included 36 activity cards (which prop up in the open kit for easy viewing) cover a wide variety of skills, such as blending sounds, matching beginning consonant sounds, and putting things in alphabetical order. A helpful Activities & Games Guide is also included, with even more exercises to stretch skills.
The Learning Resources Reading Rods Phonics Activity Set helps teach, in a fun way, the uppercase letters, lowercase letters, vowels, consonants, and letter sounds. It’s the perfect pre-reading, hands-on set for ages three to six.
You can purchase the Reading Rods Phonics Activity Set directly from Learning Resources’ store for $34.99, or by checking at any of these fine online retailers. This phonics set is just one of many wonderful Reading Rods sets and add-on activity packs available from Learning Resources.
Win it! Thanks to Learning Resources, one of you will win a Learning Resources Phonics Activity Set! Just tell me, in a comment below, another one of Learning Resources’ educational products you’d love to have for your kids, your grandkids, your classroom, or whomever! I’ll close the contest next Wednesday, December 16th, 2009 at 11pm EST. Sorry; US entries only. Good luck!
CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED.
Congratulations to commenter #5, Erica, the winner of the Reading Rods Phonics Activity Set!

Ummm, I wish I could rob their entire store. I never buy anything from Learning Resources that doesn’t get used into the ground at our house. I’ve been eyeing the Let’s Tackle Math patter/sequence set for Brighton. He’d love the skeleton floor puzzle, even though I think it’s creepy, he’s obsessed with bones and the body right now.
