Good ol’ Amelia Bedelia!

Holiday01
I grew up reading Amelia Bedelia books. In books, it’s quite possibly the first exposure I had to literal and figurative meanings of words and phrases. I consider Peggy Parish’s Amelia series a cornerstone in my later love of all things English and grammar! Since her debut nearly 50 years ago, Amelia Bedelia has been a pivotal character in early readers for young children….and a hilarious entertainer, as well.

An Amelia Bedelia Celebration: Four Stories Tall appeared on bookshelves this fall. It is a collection of four of the most loved adventures of Amelia Bedelia: The original Amelia Bedelia, Good Work, Amelia Bedelia, Good Driving, Amelia Bedelia, and Bravo, Amelia Bedelia!

This large, substantial, bright red hardcover volume’s tales are some of Peggy Parish’s and some of her nephew’s, Herman Parish. Illustrations by both Fritz Siebel and Lynn Sweat are unchanged and just as funny.

Join Amelia Bedelia in these tales of literal meaning and the chaos it causes, as you follow around this lovable maid of the very patient, very accommodating Mr. and Mrs. Rogers. This collection is made extra special in that each story leads into a host of educational and fun crafts, activities, and recipes. And, then, there’s even a CD housed within its front cover, so you can hear along as you read!

For parents such as myself who grew up reading Amelia Bedelia books, this treasury is extra special. Sharing books with my children that I loved as a child is one of my favorite things ever!

You can buy An Amelia Bedelia Celebration: Four Stories Tall for $19.99 from HarperCollins or wherever your favorite children’s books are sold.

Win it! Thanks to HarperCollins, one of you can win An Amelia Bedelia Celebration: Four Stories Tall! Just tell me, in a comment below, another one of HarperCollins’ books that you or your children would love to open on Christmas morning. I’ll close the contest next Thursday, November 26th, 2009 (Thanksgiving) at 11pm EST. Sorry; US entries only. Good luck!

CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED.

Congratulations to commenter #15, Wendy, the winner of this book!
