A different kind of coloring book

Chronicle Books recently brought Rosie Flo coloring books into the US with the publication of three of these fun, unique treasures by Roz Streeten.

First published in 2004 in the UK, these not-so-ordinary coloring books for kids ages 8-12 quickly became widely popular there. In January of this year, Chronicle Books published Rosie Flo’s Animal Coloring Book, Rosie Flo’s Coloring Book, and Rosie Flo’s Garden Coloring Book. Each retails for only $8.99 and is made up of supremely sturdy paper, ready for any artistic medium, and has a charming stitched binding.

animalWe were able to sample and enjoy Rosie Flo’s Animal Coloring Book. Streeten, largely due to her two daughters’ requests, drew intricate dresses, costumes, and other outfits, leaving out the persons themselves. Her daughters…and little artists everywhere…simply have to draw in arms, legs, and heads, then color to their hearts’ content! The creative possibilities are obviously endless.

Though the recommended age range was a bit high for my two, they still enjoy coloring in and drawing in faces and figures. My daughter’s drawing faces on everything nowadays, and my son has just begun toying with the more surrealist approach.

And I admit, it was pure joy for me, as well. Growing up drawing “fashion models” on scratch paper for years, this was right up my alley….and would have been at that age, as well, had these been around.

You can find Rosie Flo’s 3 US titles at Chronicle Books’ online store. Tuck one into a Christmas stocking for a cute and creative surprise!
