I’ll shamelessly admit it right now: I’m a big fan of my slow cooker. In fact, I have two. I’d love to have three. Even before I became a mom, when I was working away from the home all day, we ate out of the slow cooker 1-2 times per week. It’s easy, and it can easily be delicious….
….thanks to The Best Slow Cooker Cookbook Ever by Diane Phillips (and photos by James Baigrie).
Boy, was I was super excited to be able to test drive this all-territories-covered slow cooker cookbook. It’s a book that I think every new bride (and mom-to-be) should register for. There’s pretty much nothing it doesn’t tell how to slow cook….and not just effortlessly, but elegantly. This cookbook is one of the classiest slow cooking recipe books I’ve ever come across. (And believe me….I’ve cooked from a ton of them.)
With fall here in its glory, we eat soups and stews about twice a week. I love smelling them slow cook all day…..and love even more how I can whip up some corn muffins or biscuits thirty minutes before eating time….and then just call everyone to the table!
We devoured the Alphabet Vegetable Beef Soup, with chunks of sirloin steak instead of the usual ground beef — what a nice change. It made enough, like most slow cooker meals do for a family of four, to freeze for another day’s belly-warming lunch!
This is just one of the many recipes we’ve enjoyed from The Best Slow Cooker Cookbook Ever. We also enjoyed Just Peachy Pork Chops and Slow Cooker Grits, just to name a couple. With 544 pages containing over 400 recipes (for any dinner course or dessert), there’s bound to be more than a handful of favorites in your family!
You can purchase The Best Slow Cooker Cookbook Ever directly from Chronicle Book’s online store for $24.95 (or just look for it in the new cookbook section of your favorite local bookstore).
