The movie based on the book Where the Wild Things Are is due out in a few weeks. Its production would not be possible if it weren’t for the original ideas of Maurice Sendak and his fantastical book that has been a well-loved childhood favorite for years.
Scholastic/NewVideo brings the Where the Wild Things Are storybook to life in a way that truly makes the story much more magical and surreal. This read-along DVD also houses five other stories by Sendak….some not as well-known as the title story, but each one equally as spellbounding and “classically Sendak.”
This 1963 Scholastic production of Where the Wild Things Are is the same exact film I remember watching in the A/V room of our local library as a 2nd grader. Our class would line up and walk the short block from our school to the public library for weekly filmstrips, Scholastic stories in movie form. This story was one of my absolute favorites. A little scary, perhaps — but I don’t want to imagine my childhood without Max and the extraordinary adventures he encounters within the expanse of his active imagination.
You can purchase this Sendak collection DVD directly from New Video’s store for $14.95. AND, Muse Reviews readers can get 10% off of their total order by entering the promo code ” musesofmegret ” in the promotional code box at checkout!
Win it! One of you will win a copy of Where the Wild Things Are…and 5 More Stories by Maurice Sendak for your own DVD collection! Just tell me in a comment below another title from Scholastic/New Video that you’d love to add to your entertainment stash. I’ll close the contest next Thursday, September 17th, 2009 at 11pm EST. US entries only. Good luck!
THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED.
Congratulations to #22, Sara A, the winner of this DVD!
