Three (new) terrific titles for “back to school!”
It’s that time again! The summer is ending, the school buses are vrrrooming around twice a day, and the crickets can be heard loudly at dawn. It’s “back to school time!” Whether you have the new-to-preschool kid to the seasoned soon-to-be third grader, I have three excellent books to tell you about that your kids will love…new this year from HarperCollins.

We all remember Amelia Bedelia, don’t we? The silly little lady who constantly took everything literally…and ended up in some sticky mishaps. Now, for the very first time, you can meet a young Amelia Bedelia in Amelia Bedelia’s First Day of School! Just like her “older self” circa the mid-1960s, Amelia misunderstands directions and suggestions and ends up having a very interesting first day! Your kids will laugh your way through this one. My two especially liked Amelia “gluing herself to her seat.” (Well, after all, her teacher did ask her to!) (HarperCollins, $16.99)

If you remember Amelia Bedelia, you’ll also remember Mercer Mayer’s Little Critter books. Within “The New Adventures of Mercer Mayer’s Little Critter” comes First Day of School. Little Critter is a little excited, to say the least, about his first day of school. He goes through his day, meeting uncertainties and surprises along the way. There are page flaps which expand the pages for interactive reading enjoyed by all. A simple, fun read with well-loved and remembered characters….it will charm any child! (HarperFestival, $6.99)

John Grogan, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Marley & Me, brings us yet another fabulously fun book for the younger set, Marley Goes to School. Like many canine companions, Marley grows sad and lonely when his beloved pal, Cassie, goes off to school and leaves him behind. Not for long, though! Marley crashes and clambers his way through her elementary school to find and be reunited with her. (With several angry people on his tail, I might add!) The illustrations are deluxe and vibrant: Dog hair and paper shreds, tacks and skid marks are on almost every page as Marley makes his way though the school and leaves his mark. (HarperCollins, $17.99)
Win it! Courtesy of HarperCollins, I can give one of each of these back-to-school-themed books away! (That means there will be three winners!) Just leave me a comment below telling me which one you’d pick if you won….and why. I will close the contest next Friday, September 4, 2009 at 11pm EST. US entries only. Good luck!
THIS CONTEST IS CLOSED.
Congratulations to the following winners!:
#25, Stephanie, has won the Mercer Mayer book.
#42, Jennifer, has won the Amelia Bedelia book.
#29, Beth, has won the Marley book.
