There’s a new pet in the neighborhood. He’s small enough to fit into your pocket. And your kids can take care of him all by themselves, all the while learning and making new friends.
It’s not a “real” pet — it’s a virtual pet at Pocketville! Pocketville is an online game stemming from Jakks Pacific’s Jungle/Kitty/Pony/Puppy-In-My-Pocket toys. It’s a virtual spot where your child can create his or her own pet, buy it lots of cool accessories, then wander around Pocketville, where they can visit new places, play educational games, and meet friends (other kids online at the same time). Think of it as a bubbly, kid-safe, adorable child-centric chat room that’s based on having and taking care of pets.
We visited Pocketville for the first time this week. My kids adopted a cute Dalmatian puppy named Dot. After Dot was “bought” with tokens, my son’s avatar (which is totally customizable) walked around Pocketville and explored. In the Hometown area, he was able to let Dot run through the Agility Adventure (a dog park with an obstacle course). In Fountain Plaza, there’s a lovely-sounding water fountain, a Pet Spa, a library, a post office, a bank (to buy more tokens), and a salon for avatars. In the castle, G found a fun paint game. Learning games give your kids the opportunity to earn “Pawllers,” which can also be exchanged for cool loot.
You can see other avatars/kids and their pets walking around Pocketville during play. G requested a few friendships and got some replies — he grinned when he realized he was “talking” to other kids around the country!
The background music is fun and upbeat, the graphics are bubbly and bright, and there are adequate choices and options for both boys and girls who want to play.
