Going back to school….with gears!

G loves gears. The Christmas after he turned three, he simply asked Santa for “gears.” We recently adopted a family dog, and G named him Pushbutton, “because,” he said, “I like buttons…and machines….and gears.”

Toys involving gears are terrific for building left-brained problem-solving and construction skills, as well as cause and effect learning. Any construction sets, including this one, are great fine-motor skill builders.

Learning Resources’ Gears! Gears! Gears! sets are right up his alley….and would intrigue and entertain any building set-loving, technically-minded kid. And this summer, just in time for the new school year ahead, Learning Resources debuted their newest Gears! Gears! Gears! playset: The Gears! Gears! Gears! School Set!

The pieces (over 60 in all) are thick, durable, super-colorful plastic that assembled painlessly and snapped together easily.

Gears 1

The color-coded directions were easy to follow. To boost creativity, this set can be reconfigured and rearranged to create different play scenes every time!

Gears 3

The schoolhouse has a dry-erase surface with a blackboard inside that can be written on and erased over and over again. And when class is over, there’s a fantastic playground “outside” the schoolhouse for recess!

Gears 2

Both our 3-year-old and almost-5-year-old love tinkering with the gears, letting the plastic “classmates” play and learn on a miniature scale. The Gears! Gears! Gears! School Set is recommended for ages 4-8. It retails for $34.99 and is fully compatible with other Gears! sets by Learning Resources. You can purchase this set directly from Learning Resources’ online store or at several local-to-you retailers (you can use the handy store locator here).

Win it! Thanks to Learning Resources, one of you can win a Gears! Gears! Gears! School Set for your own kids to enjoy! Just browse around at the other terrific Learning Resources products and tell me in one comment another product you or your kids would love. I’ll close the contest next Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 11pm EST. Sorry; US entries only. Good luck!

CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED.
