Perfect Pointer: Perfect for teachers (and kids alike)!

By megret | July 21, 2009 at 7:16 am | 19 comments | Educational, For the Kids

As a homeschooling parent, I’m always trying to find ways to liven up our “teaching times.” Since my two are still preschoolers, our total school time is less than 2 hours a day….but anyone with young children knows that their attention spans are teeny tiny at this age. Sometimes novelty and fun helps lessons stick. That’s why I love Learning Resources’ Perfect Pointer!

Learning Resources, already high in my book of terrific learning toys and accessories for children, brings the element of fun and whimsy into the classroom setting with the Perfect Pointer.

Made of substantial, break-resistant plastic, the 22″ Perfect Pointer is easy to hold and use. This pointer performs a myriad of visual and auditory functions:

- “Cheering” or “jeering” to reinforce positive behavior/correct answers and “jokingly” discourage negative behavior/incorrect answers. A simple press of the “thumbs up” and “thumbs down” buttons produces one of the 10 varied sound effects.
- The translucent pointer hand glows in three different colors: Red, blue, green, as well as flash-rotates between all three for great attention-getting.
- A knob clicks to turn the pointer on and off, as well as controls the volume (which is really nice!). Power-saving features are included when the pointer is left on unattended.
- An activity guide is included.

Though it was originally intended for preschool-at-home, the kids have taken the Perfect Pointer and had a blast with it. It’s been a magic wand for my daughter’s “fairy play,” as well as a tool for her older brother to explain things (he loves to build things and then explain the process to us afterwards). The kids giggle at the “Ka-Ching!” and “Cuckoo!” noises it emits, and the flashing LED lights in the hand are “as pretty as Christmas lights,” my son exclaimed.

Learning Resources’ Perfect Pointer would make a fantastic addition to your classroom this fall. It retails for $19.99 and can be purchased directly from Learning Resources’ online store or via a wide selection of online retailers.

We could really use the time tracker visual timer and clock. My son is starting kindergarten at home in the fall and he’d love to add the challenge of timing some things but it would also be useful for room cleaning, etc to help keep him on track.

PS – I received the CD that I won and was sent to my Grandmother’s home in the USA. THANKS! Wanted to let you know!

The Science Content Picture Dictionary would be useful in the near future for my family.
I’d like to win this pointer because I have plans to homeschool my daughter and I can imagine that pointer is hard to ignore when someone is trying to teach you with it! Perfect for my little angel with the little attention span :)

I teach kindergarten, so this pointer would be wonderful for when the “calendar helper” of the day leads the class in going over the calendar.

Of course, one of the best manipulatives to buy from Learning Resources are the teddy bear counters :)

    this looks pretty cool: Glow-in-The-Dark PlayFoam® 6-Pack

  8. Heather (2 years ago)

I love the “Let’s Tackle Kindergarten” set because it has so many manipulatives that I could use with my son when doing preschool or kindergarten activities!

I would love to add the Perfect Pointer to my classroom this fall. I especially think it would be fun when we play our Word Wall Word game. Children take turns pointing to specific words they can read on the word wall. The perfect pointer would be great to for the students to use!

I think my son would enjoy the Jump ‘N’ Jam Jungle™ Talking Floor Mat.

  12. Amanda (2 years ago)

I’d like to add this to my mom’s teaching bag because she’s incredibly short and she works with a tall teacher. She has the hardest time reviewing things that her co-worker has written. This is perfect.

My cousin teaches children with behavior disorders and learning disabilities. She would put this delightful pointer to very good use. Another item I found that I really liked is the Behavior Chart!
    Both are very good ideas.
    Thanks to you…..Cindi

I would like to add the Perfect Pointer to my teaching because I am in a wheelchair and this pointer will make it much easier for me to point out something on the board.
