Eric Herman (and his Invisible Band) has done it again — he’s released another super-fun album with catchy song lyrics and danceable tunes. Herman’s 5th released CD, What a Ride!, debuted last month and includes 11 brand new tunes. Guest musicians are also included, folks such as Chris Wiser of Sugar Free Allstars, Eric Ode, and David Tobocman, just to name a few.

These songs are super silly and make my kids’ noses scrunch up in laughter. “Stink Bug” is a favorite. It spurned a conversation about stink bugs, actually — what they are and why they, well, stink! I supremely enjoy the downtempo, relaxing song “How Big,” telling about how little we are in comparison to the world in which we live and breathe. It’s something I think about nearly every time I walk my neighborhood, drive down a treeless highway, or look at the stars…and Eric Herman has put this into words so perfectly.

In this song and in others, such as “Come Play,” Herman’s heartfelt lyrics never fail to strike a chord in Mom’s heart, as well. Why don’t we set down what we’re doing (those “important” things) more often and just “come play” with our kids? What a gentle, fun, & musical reminder about what being a mom or dad really means.

Eric Herman’s albums have, for a long while now, been a favorite road trip companion for our family. Last summer, “The Elephant Song” played on repeat for over five hours during our drive to the beach….and it never got old. (Have you seen the video of this song? And did you know there’s an iPhone app for it?!) Eric’s music is fresh, lively, put-you-in-a-good-mood music….and this album, What a Ride!, is no exception.
