A little pig with a big opinion.

The newest book in the “Little Books” collection by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Jen Corace, Little Oink, is just as creative and cute as its predecessors!

Little Oink is different. He’s not like the other pigs, and he knows it. Why? He prefers clean over messy. That’s just not acceptable in Little Oink’s world! His parents tell him he’s way too neat. He receives gentle reprimands for making his bed, wearing clean clothes, and putting his toys back into the toy chest. Papa Pig holds out a dripping paintbrush and points in the direction of Little Oink’s room. “Please — not another word until this room’s a total pigsty.”

Little Oink obeys his parents, despite the fact that he doesn’t see things from their point of view. He makes a promise to himself in the process, though, that when he grows up, he’ll let his piglets keep their rooms as clean as they like.

Just like the other two books in the series, this “backwards” story makes little minds stretch. I can literally see the wheels turning in my son’s head as he contemplates the tale. Soon, a smile forms across his face and a giggle lets loose. “So funny! He doesn’t like messes!” Pretty soon, I’m giggling, too, and my youngest runs over to see what all the laughs are about.

This endearing book is a lighthearted and playful read that any preschooler will enjoy, chuckles guaranteed. It retails for $14.99 and can be bought directly from Chronicle Books or at your favorite bookseller.

Win it! Thanks to Chronicle Books, I am able to give away one copy of Little Oink! To enter the contest, look over the other titles at Chronicle Books Kids and tell me, in one comment, another book your children would love. I’ll close the contest next Friday, June 26th, 2009. Sorry; US entries only. Good luck!
