Cori Doerrfeld’s delightful drawings within this book lend a playfulness and girlyness that my daughter eats up when we read this book. It’s difficult to turn the pages because she loves to look at the pictures in tuned detail!
It’s the Best Day Ever, Dad! follows Frankie and her little sister, Violet, from sunup to sundown on a day that’s set aside as a “break” for their mommy. Their daddy creates an extra-special day for them to share together, from early morning special-shaped pancakes to frolicking in the dog park to having a tea party. The sweet portrayals of simple yet memorable times with Daddy echo what we cherish in our own family. It’s as if an invisible photographer snaps priceless photos of these little girls acting silly and having fun with their adoring, go-with-the-flow dad. (He even sports a feather boa at one point! I would love to win this for my adorable 2 year old niece,. Her favorite time of the day is after her evening bath.. Her daddy sits in the “Big” rocking chair and reads 2 books to her before she goes to bed.. He had to tell her 2 or he would be there until 2 in the morning reading to that sweet girl.
