There’s a show on PBS that I’m sure your preschoolers have noticed. In our house, Super WHY has gained a ton of attention over the past several months. What’s not to love? Super heroes with mysterious masks and high-flying capes, cool sounds and awesome vehicles, all wrapped up within a terrific course in early reading in every single episode!
June brought with it the debut of Super WHY toys by Learning Curve to the shelves of Toys”R”Us stores nationwide. There’s a wide variety of Super WHY toys within this new line from Learning Curve….something to suit every interest, age, and price range.
Super WHY’s show (and now interactive toys) helps gives kids the “power to read” through literacy building activities and features. Your child can dress up like their favorite Super WHY character, grab ahold of one of the excellent new teaching toys/tools, and get right into the action of learning to read.
We were sent a few of the Super WHY toys to try out, and boy, are the kids enamoured! It didn’t take long before I was having to set the minute timer, giving each one of them 10 minutes’ wear time of the Super WHY Role Play Set!
The soft yet substantial cape attaches easily with a simple, easy-to-release velcro fastener. The included green mask is perfectly shaped for little faces, and the light up Why Writer makes cool sounds and says all of the kids’ favorite quotes from the popular show.
The Alpha Pig Action Figure boasts a hammer that’s detachable, and an arm that gets it swinging when you press the triangle on Alpha Pig’s belt. The detachable tool box and yellow plastic cape give more interactivity to this collectible toy.
The palm-sized Why Flyer Vehicles are a big hit with our daughter. She is intrigued by all-things-princess, and so this empowered, rocket-driving Princess Presto and her sidekick, Wonder Red, get lots of “flight time” around our house every day.

I find our son quite frequently tucked into an armchair with the Super WHY Zap & Learn Why Writer. This unique toy has two levels/modes. G loves the storytelling mode; he can, with the shake of his wrist or the click of a button, decide which words to use in a story he crafts all on his own. This gadget teaches reading comprehension, word recognition, vocabulary, fine & gross motor skills, and the skill of following directions. The Zap & Learn Why Writer is most definitely a multi-faceted toy!
As I mentioned earlier, these Super WHY toys (and several others within this excellent new line by Learning Curve) can be found at your nearby Toys”R”Us or at Toys”R”Us.com. The prices range from $4.99 to $19.99. If your child loves Super WHY as much as ours do, this is definitely worth checking out!
Win it! Thanks to the generous folks at Learning Curve, I have a giveaway for you! One of you will win the Super WHY! Hovering Why Flyer:

Here’s a description from Learning Curve of this toy (it retails for $19.99):
“Through the use of Super Why’s “super” powers, the Super WHY! Hovering Why Flyer magically allows our favorite storybook hero to take to the sky! Actually hovering above the ground, this amazing motion-activated toy features lights, sound effects and phrases straight from the Super WHY! TV series. The innovative hovering flyer takes imaginative play to a whole new level, as kids take Super Why in search of new adventures for hours on end.”
All you need to do is visit Learning Curve’s Super WHY page and tell me another product within the Super WHY line (that I didn’t mention in this post) that you think your children would enjoy. I’ll close the contest next Sunday, June 14th, 2009 at 11pm EST. Sorry; US entries only. Good luck!
