Seeing the Everyday: A magazine that speaks
I am a magazine junkie. I’ll admit it right now. I currently subscribe to around 10 magazines, and I am always looking for more excuses to subscribe to even more.
I gain lots of knowledge, crafty know-how, inspiration, and laughs from the pages within these nugget-sized pamphlets, but I’ll admit….most of them skim the surface and don’t quite reach deep into your soul the way a book does.
Until now. Seeing The Everyday is a magazine that speaks like a book. It’s real. It’s raw. It’s meaningful. It’s sentimental. It’s truly a treasure.
Seeing the Everyday’s motto is “finding poetry in the prosaic.” It’s all about family. It centers around family and friends and the everyday happenings and interactions within those circles. It reflects on unforgettable memories, as well as shows the making of new ones. The contributions are transparent…and the photographs are moving.
I realize that I am not doing this magazine justice with my written words. These issues truly need to be held in the hands in order to be experienced the way they were intended to be. When I read the holiday issue, I never expected to read the entire volume in one sitting….but I did. I just couldn’t put it down.
Within it, I found lovely photographed interactions between parents and children….glimpses into family life during holiday preparations….scanned artwork from little ones’ hands….and snapshots of cherished tree ornaments paired with the stories behind them. It inspired me in my profession of motherhood….and helped recall fond memories of my mom and all she did for me growing up (things which are often taken for granted or forgotten over the years).
If you are wanting a new magazine for the new year….but perhaps something a little different, a little more focused, a little challenging….consider Seeing the Everyday. You can subscribe for one year for $19.95. These are truly keepsakes; these won’t be tossed in the trash after use….they’ll find themselves stacked on an accessible bookshelf, waiting to be read again and again. Just wait and see.
Go see what others are saying about this magazine, too, via the Seeing the Everyday blog.
Win it! One of you lucky people will win a 1-year subscription to Seeing the Everyday magazine! Head over to the Seeing The Everyday website or blog, then come back and tell me in a comment one thing that jumped out at you or why you would like to add this magazine to your reading repertoire. US only; sorry. Duplicate commenters will be disqualified. I’ll close the contest at 11pm EST next Thursday, January 15th, 2009. Good luck!

I like how the periodical boasts about recognizing the “small moments” in life. That is an area I feel I could really grow in. Sounds like an interesting magazine!

I love how the website says that our brief conversations with each other impact our character – I really believe that’s true. Thanks for the chance!

Looks really good! I like the fact that it focuses on the “small things” which are truly the most important and I love the fact that it’s advertisement free. Thanks for letting up know about this magazine.

everyone I know focuses on the big, apparent things…I am the only one who keeps stating it’s the littel blessings that are more meaningful, impactful…that I am truly grateful for. I wasn’t always like this, but to see sometihng out there promoting it as well, well that’s something that appeals alot to me…great giveaway!

I’d actually take time out to read this because I believe it makes you stop and appreciate the intangible things in life – things that really matter!

I love that it focuses on the everyday, simple things — those are the things that tend to be meaningful but that we easily overlook. It’s good to be reminded of that!

Hi, What a fabulous magazine. I have never seen it on the newsstands here!
I like that it is advertisement free, but most of all that it aims for its’ readership to see the extraordinary in the ordinary or small things of life! Happy magazine. Please enter me in your delightful giveaway drawing. Many thanks, Cindi

Shannon recognizes that it’s about appreciating each day and each little moment for what it is…a chance to teach and to learn something new about yourself and your children.
This statement really stood out to me because I feel as if I need to learn something new and with a bit of help I think I can do it. This seems like an interesting magazine.

the whole premise of this magazine seems to align itself nicely with one of my 2009 goals of cherishing the small things along the way – I love when they said “StE is dedicated to revealing the power and importance of the seemingly small moments of life” – sounds like a great descriptor of a mom-job too! great giveaway!

I’m a mag addict as well! This mag is perfect for me. I am struggling right now with many major things going bad. I am trying my hardest to focus on the little positives in my life. Anything extra is a nice boost for me!

“Seeing the everyday” seems to try to hide its Mormon roots. I wonder why that is…
