What child can resist sweets?

I have two sweet-treat-themed books to share about today! (As if you aren’t already swamped with holiday sweets at your house! But….these treats are just to read about, not eat!)

The first is another book in the ever-popular series of “If You Give a….” books by Laura Numeroff & Felicia Bond. If You Give a Cat a Cupcake is just as full of rolicking fun as the other titles they’ve debuted….and for some reason, children can’t resist these stories. (I know mine can’t.) If it’s not the words, it’s the silly pictures that get my two little ones giggling….even my harder-to-impress-with-books 4-year-old son! It’s truly one of his top favorites now, and he loves to hear it again and again. The storyline, like in the other titles, comes full circle, and creates one crazy adventure….the cat even visits a gym to workout….a silly, ludicrous activity that the kids found hilarious. It helps that the cat resembles our own resident feline.

To go along with this book are some fun, free teaching materials and an online matching game!

If You Give a Cat a Cupcake retails for $16.99 and can be found at most any brick-and-mortar bookstore or online bookseller.

The second book is quite a treasure: Cookies: Bite-Size Life Lessons by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. It’s a friendly, child-centric dictionary of morals, of sorts. This book, with sweet, huggable children and dressed-up animals, teaches in a tangible way (with cookies, of course) how to share, how to be a friend, how to look at a glass half-full.

I found myself feeling as if I was stepping back into the first half of the century when I looked at these drawings and surveyed the overall vintage look of this volume. This is not only a book of virtues, it’s an heirloom.

This one should truly be seen to be understood:

I homeschool my 6yo daughter and she loves to read new books. She would enjoy reading If You Give a Cat a Cupcake and playing the online matching game. I would enjoy the teaching materials.

I think “If You Give A Cat A Cupcake” sounds really cute. Josiah loves kitty-cats and that cat looks like one of our cats as well. The fact that the story includes sweets is always a plus. :-)

Both of these books look cute, but my favorite would be If You Give a Cat a Cupcake. We have If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and my son loves it, so I’m sure he’d enjoy this one too. How fun that they have an online game!
