It’s a big world with big words.

My children are hearing complicated “grown up” words and beginning to use them….words like “delicious” and “outstanding” and “hilarious.” It’s cute to watch them try to use them in a sentence….as well as pronounce them correctly!

I have the perfect book for kids who want to learn how to “talk big.” Jamie Lee Curtis and Laura Cornell, the bestselling duo, have done it again — created a super useful and fun-to-look-at book for kids that’s more than entertaining: Big Words for Little People.

Take a peek into this fun book:

The concept is refreshing….and the super-detailed illustrations are entrancing….I found myself staring endlessly at the pages after I’d finished reading the text. So much to look at!

I love that virtuous words are also included in this cute book…such as “cooperate,” “persevere,” and “patience.” Anyone with preschoolers at home knows that these words come out of a mother’s mouth quite often.

Helpful games and puzzles are also available at HarperCollins Children’s website (click here for printable PDF fun), and an online spelling game will also stretch the fun and the learning!

This hardcover book retails for $16.99 and can be found wherever books are sold. Click here for a helpful list of online sources.

Win it! One of you will win a copy of this book courtesy of HarperCollins Children’s. Just leave me a comment to tell me a “big” word your child has recently learned, and why he or she would love this book! (One comment only please; duplicate commenters will be disqualified.) US entries only. I’ll close the contest next Tuesday, December 23rd at 11pm EST. Good luck!

My almost-three-year-old has been trying to say ‘tortilla’, but she combines it with ’soup’, since we have tortilla soup a lot, and it comes out something like ‘toopeetoop’. It’s hilarious. She loves books, and seems to like this style of book in particular.

Our newest big word is astronaut. We love Jamie Lee Curtis and would love to win this!

What a fun book…and such an excellent concept! I’m always amazed by the “big” words that our 2-year-old picks up. Lately, she’s been saying “actually” at the end of a lot of her sentences…as in “I think that was Grandma at the door actually.” It’s so cute!
