Like riddles?

Who doesn’t like a good riddle? It’s a fun way to use dusty parts of the brain to incorporate games into learning. I have come across an extremely fun DVD to help kids learn all about bodies of water and the animals who live there.

I don’t even know how to write this review — I can’t find the words to articulate how clever, how cute, how memorable this presentation was to my family.

Let me introduce The Riddle in a Bottle by Sisbro Studios.

This adorable and fun-filled short film had our four-year-old in stitches. My husband and I laughed along with him, all the while marveling at how much WE were learning ourselves.

Laura and Robert, a sister and brother riddle-solving team, try to figure out the answer to a riddle posed by a bottle they found. (They are also, incidently, the faces behind the Sisbro company itself.) The bottle travels throughout several types of bodies of water, gaining hints and answer suggestions from animals who call those places home. (The voices of the animals are half of the fun!) I don’t want to give away too much. Here is a link to the trailer if you itch to see more.

The Riddle Solvers eventually happen upon an one-legged pirate. This side story inspired the creation of a book, A Pirate’s Quest, which just debuted this summer. Laura and Robert wrote the book, and artist Heiner Hertling illustrated it. The oil-painted-on-canvas images and the clever story itself are equally entrancing!

This fantastic book/DVD duo is just one of many great things this sister/brother team are turning out. Their love for animals, habitats, and wildlife (as well as interest in helping to create fun educational programming for kids) is evident in the other presentations they’ve fostered and created.

Sisbro Studios’ products can be found at numerous booksellers across the country, as well as purchased directly from their website.

Win it! Sisbro Studios sent me an extra copy of Riddle in a Bottle for one of you! All you have to do is go visit Sisbro Studios’ website and tell me the name of one other DVD presentation that you think your kids would love, and why. I’ll close the contest at 11pm EST next Tuesday, October 21st, 2008 and announce the winner the next morning. (Sorry; U.S. entries only. One comment per person, please.) Good luck!

What a neat product. It’s always hard to find things for kids to watch. My crew would love the Pirate’s Quest (especially my son) and the Bearly Alike. Actually, they find anything with animals pretty interesting.

Lost in the Woods…my son loves animals! We go to my parents house in the country and he looks through the “noculars” to see what animals he can find.
