Putumanyo Kids Presents: Sesame Street Playground!

By megret | October 1, 2008 at 7:00 am | 43 comments | For the Kids, Media

Our family has recently become huge fans of Putumayo Kids.  Their music is like no other.  Expanding horizons to the music of other cultures is fun again!

I was ecstatic to hear of a new CD arriving from Putumayo Kids this fall:  Sesame Street Playground!  Sesame Street is big, big at our house — is it at yours?  I thought it’d be really neat to show the kids how other kids in other countries see the same show in their own unique languages.  Did you know that Sesame Street is aired in over 120 countries?

This CD has 13 terrific songs from other countries (Brazil, Tanzania, The Netherlands), each sung in native languages.  It is fun to hear how some are similar in tune but differ in dialect only — and yet others are totally unique to the area and are brand new to our ears as a whole.

This CD also includes a bonus DVD with five music videos from international Sesame Street episodes!  Our little ones marveled at how Elmo looked the same but sounded completely different.  The props, the costumes, the music style — all reflected the cultures represented.  The DVD has subtitles in four languages to make it a truly international item.  (Head to the website and see snippets of the videos and hear clips of the songs!)

Win it!  Would you like to win my copy of the CD/DVD combo of Putumayo’s Sesame Street Playground?  All you have to do is visit Putumayo Kids’ website and tell me in one comment the name of another kids’ CD title that you think your kids would enjoy.  Sorry; US entries only.  I’ll close the contest next Thursday, October 9th, 2008 and announce the winner Friday morning.

Good luck…
