I am so excited to be able to rave about some of my favorite products! That’s one of my favorite parts about blogging. This time it’s no different….I have a great item to share about today.
I am honored to be able to tell you about a wonderful company that I have only known about for about a year. This company has been around since my first one was born in 2004, but I didn’t know about them….I wish I had! The company is Preschool Prep, and they produce an assortment of educational DVDs, books, and other accessories for the younger set….i.e., mainly older infants and children of the early preschool years (ages 9 months to 5 years). Both of my children fit the mold, so I decided to order “Meet the Letters” last fall.
The animations are simple and the letter presentation is repetitive, but we all know that small children learn greatly from repetition. The colors are vibrant and the characters whimsical and charming; I noticed smiles on my two kids’ faces right away.
The company has also creates DVDs that aid in introducing kids to numbers, colors, shapes, and even sight words, 20 of the most prevalent words that “every child exiting kindergarten should know.”
These DVDs are specifically geared to teach children the link between spoken word and visual words/objects. They are especially useful during the peak months in which children are actually learning to talk. My 18-month-old can recognize every letter of the alphabet, uppercase and lowercase, and speak them out loud. She has even begun to “read” sight words…even before she’s able to use them in conversation! (She’s just now putting together 2 and 3-word phrases.)
On their ads, Preschool Prep boasts that in a study of 50 babies and toddlers who watched Meet the Letters daily, 90% had complete recognition of upper and lowercase letters….often in two weeks or less! That goes to show that this is truly a learning DVD series that produces tangible results, not just sheer entertainment.
Furthermore, these DVDs are proven to be very beneficial for children on the autism spectrum, as well. In a recent review, Kathy Oxley (the company’s founder) noted “that they have been hearing the same thing over and over from parents of children with autism. ‘It is the gentle music and the repetition that engages these children and they really respond to the DVDs.’ Many autistic children who watch Meet the Letters have found it easy to learn upper and lowercase letter names.” (Read this entire article/review here, under the Dec. 2006 column on Preschool Prep’s press page.)
I sincerely wish I could give away a copy of every one of their excellent DVDs to my every one of you, my faithful readers! But I CAN offer this: Preschool Prep has donated one “Meet the Sight Words” ( one of their bestselling DVDs) to one lucky reader!! How exciting!
