G and his daddy decided to build a PVC water pipe factory last week to celebrate the completion of G’s first swimming lessons! There are a number of tutorials we found when we looked online, but we used the most recent Family Fun magazine’s plans (and photos) as the main inspiration.
A trip to our local Ace Hardware and a few handfuls of PVC pipe segments, elbows, and caps later (oh, and some clear plastic tubing), the project was underway. Since that day, he’s created a sprinkler, a shower, a “water wand,” and several other things he named but I can’t remember right now. *grin* (Can you guess which one of the family is NOT very technically minded?)
The first project was just the beginning. The beauty of this project is that the “factory” can be expanded piece by piece, and G can change the pipes around anytime he chooses to create new things.
There are so many other ideas for making pipe/water contraptions for your summertime backyard! Here are just a couple:
- FamilyFun’s intricate colored water factory
- A “kid and bike wash” via Instructables
- Another “kid and bike wash” at No Fuss Fabulous
Have fun!
