Though I’d technically planned to take the summer “off” from preschooling-at-home, it’s become rather obvious that the kids’ thirst for knowledge (and actual sit-down learning time) isn’t seasonal. The two of them are both excelling in letter sounds/phonetics, and so I’m moving ahead with them! G’s formal reading readiness lessons for fall will be a lot smoother if I go ahead and start now. Though I won’t implement any formal “learn time,” I’ve dedicated to letting the kids “work” and learn when they ask to.

Today we stamped letters!

The kids were itching to get their hands on some tempera paints, so G took it upon himself to pull out the foam letter stamps. To stretch the exercise, after each child stamped a letter onto the page, I asked them to tell me a word that starts with that letter. Worked like a charm!

A couple of weeks ago, I bought them a box of wooden alphabet stamps and washable ink pads at Hobby Lobby. I’ve been saving them for a moment such as this. Love the typeset — and the fact that I was going to buy them anyway, but they just happened to be marked down to a clearance price of under $4.00!
