I recently read and was immensely inspired by SimpleMom’s article, “Use the Good Stuff.” Why be ordinary & repetitive when there’s an accomplishment within the family that needs to be celebrated?
Of course, completing two weeks of first-ever swim lessons calls for special treatment. G’s had a special day in many ways, but we thought we’d put icing on the cake by making a special dinner.
I kept the plastic plates and kiddie forks and spoons in the cupboard tonight and instead reached for our wedding china. Used so seldomly, I am ashamed to admit that several of the pieces still have price tags stuck on the back. It’s a pity that so many of our friends and family paid so much money for these ensembles, and I let them so often just sit on the shelves and serve as dust collectors.
The kids, especially G, took notice of the set table. White, gleaming, grown-up-like!
A reminder to me today to bring out the finer things when celebrations are called for. (Or not just on special days — but any old time — another wonderful concept shared by Like Merchant Ships!)
