Watercolor initials
After seeing this project in my “to do with the kids” folder for weeks and weeks, I finally decided yesterday was the day. We made some beautiful watercolor initials with the help of Blissfully Domestic’s tutorial.
I found printable alphabet letters here. If it’s more your style, some whimsical lettering would also be neat…
My contact paper had gotten squished in the craft drawer and was horrible to work with, but I somehow got the letters cut out (fairly) evenly and adhered to the white paper with no air bubbles.
The kids set to work on the watercoloring. The kids were full of questions as to why their paint wasn’t sticking to the shiny-sided contact paper! R wasn’t too keen on the idea of having to fill up the whole page…all the white space.
G is the king of filling-in-every-single-bit-of-white-space. He does it with all his artwork lately. This art project was not only a piece of cake for him, it was an absolute joy.
You know, a rice krispie treat will help make the whole process a little bit more enjoyable….
These turned out beautifully! We’ll definitely be repeating this same idea/process with other applications. Wouldn’t silhouettes be pretty done this way?

Love the idea! I found some cheap paint canvas at Ollies and have been looking for what to do with them. There is some wall space in the kid’s playroom I wanted to personalize, this this is a perfect idea! Thank you.
