It’s okay…

…to sometimes pull out past, semi-forgotten, neglected activities….especially for those indoor-only days.

We were more or less inside yesterday due to work being done on the outside of our house and because the heat. (June brought with it some pretty high temps!)

G was able to experiment with the activity he deemed his favorite all last year: Color mixing with tinted water and a turkey baster. He was happily playing for an hour, and we oohed and ahhed at all of the subtle hues he created.

Later in the afternoon, the Duplos, wooden blocks and play mat were pulled out.

Suppertime interrupted our construction. Next time G wants to create an elaborate city to house a plethora of Playmobil men.

There are some toys that the kids pull out all day, every day, and play with without prompting….then there are toys like these that I have to pull out and generate interest in. In no time, though, nine times out of ten, the kids enjoy them immensely and fuss when it’s time to clean up. Yet another enigma of parenthood, I suppose!

The simplest activities are so often the best. I forget this all the time and go way overboard! It’s super-rainy here today, so I think we’ll get our baster out :)
