G has taken on my love of writing and storytelling, it seems.
When we picked he and Rainey up from a recent visit with grandparents, his Grandmama handed me a rolled up, scroll-like paper secured with a paper clip.
It seems as if G had a story in his head and wanted to get it down on paper.
He enlisted Grandmama’s help embodying his ideas into written word. I unrolled it and read his very first written story:
“Gardner’s Monster”
“When Gardner was in the dark, he saw a mean monster. It was inside Gardner’s room at Granamama’s house. Gardner ran into Grandmama’s room. The monster ran behind him and Gardner ran fast. Grandmama took Gardner to the car and he buckled up so fast. They went to Mommy’s house. Mommy got a big hammer and slammed the monster down and put monster poison on it and a heavy bucket with a bowling ball fell down on the monster. Then the monster fell down. The end.”
Now, notice the plethora of “boyish” themes within this short story. Monsters, poison, hammers. It also subtly showcases the recent return of G’s fear of the dark and going to bed at night, which we are gently working with him on (reciting verses with him, and praying lots and lots).
It’s also pretty cool that I got the honor of being the heroine in this story. *grin*
