My fingernails are not brown anymore, but the study still is.

I spent my weekend (most of it, anyway) painting.

I had always been dissatisfied with our spare bedroom-turned-study, seeing as I was in a rush to get everything painted when we first moved in 3 years ago and didn’t move past a pale, boring ivory when selecting the color chip. It stayed ivory, even after Baby R was born and we began to use that room multiple times daily.

It just took one cold, bleary January morning (that would mean this past Friday) to make me put my foot down and say, “That’s it. It’s time for a change.”

We called Ken’s mom and within a few hours had her treasured Sherwin-Williams paint swatch box in our possession. I picked out seven shades of the color I had envisioned, then called Ken in for a final vote. It was unanimous. I don’t remember the exact color name (though I should; I’m a stickler for that kind of detail)….I just prefer to call it dark chocolate. After one of my most favoritetist things in the whole world.

This was a leap of faith for me, I might add….to paint a room 2,342 shades darker than the original color without significant time to adjust. One day I was talking about it….the next night, it was done. Only one minor freak-out in the middle of it, but I blame it on lack of sleep combined with a carb crash following one too many Strawberry Twizzlers, not on a second-guessing of judgment.

And I must say the color makes me just as warm & cozy as a bar of chocolate does. It’s now our cozy study hideaway instead of a drab utilitarian cubicle. Love. It. LOVE IT.

I love it! We painted an accent wall in our living room a dark brown which was way out of my comfort zone, but we LOVE it! So many people comment on it too. It does just give you a warm feeling. :-)

Oh, that is cozy! It’s so warm and rich and “chocolate-y.” You created a totally relaxing and inviting nook.

I love that your daughter is playing around with the computer. Is she playing a game…?

That looks gorgeous! I think I’d be hungry every time I worked in there, though :)

If you like brown you should check out our bathroom. Original fifties pink and chocolate. It’s a treat!

It’s beautiful! So rich, warm, and inviting. My husband is a house painter. He has a great eye for color, and five times he has suddenly gotten a bee in his bonnet, and the next thing I knew, a room was painted. The first time, I hated, loathed, and abhorred the color (in the kitchen), and got nauseous every time I walked into the room. But I didn’t say anything, and I’m so glad I didn’t because about a week after it was painted, I walked into the kitchen and suddenly LOVED it. It’s a color somewhere between acid green and chartreuse…the other choices have been much less, um, vivid.

good for you! we painted Cameron’s room a similar color & I (well, actually we) adore it! I think a good rich color is just good for the soul! :-)

I would have to say my favorite cozy spot is my corner of the couch, in our den – with Brad in the recliner, Walker playing contentedly on the floor & baby C cuddled up in my lap – am loving being a family of 4!
