We had a wonderful, wonderful Christmas week. So many wonderful moments, so many new memories made, and so many, many old memories revisited. What more could we have asked for?
It was nice to take a break from blogging, Twittering, reading Bloglines, emailing, etc. (all things “plugged in”), but I realized I had no place to record what went on every day. I couldn’t help it — on Tuesday, I began scrawling a list on a Post-It Note, things I didn’t want to forget. Here’s my list, as random as it may be.
- R announced that she hoped Santa would bring her a guitar, a purple flute for G, and a fire engine for me. (A real one, not a toy.)
- Polar Express sleigh bell went AWOL — ordered it on Dec. 16th and it didn’t show up, as promised, in time to put under the Christmas tree on the 25th. I’ve never filed a USPS missing item report, ever — guess I’ll be doing that this week. (boo.)
- We discovered that R exhibits sheer terror….no…paralyzing fear of anything robotic, air-filled, spring-loaded, or life-like. (She was deeply traumatized by an inflatable yard snowman, a 3-1/2-foot vintage doll at Grandma’s, her jack-in-the-box, and the walking robot G received from Santa.)
- We attended a total of six family gatherings in five days.
- For said gatherings, I baked/cooked a record number of dishes including, but not limited to: 3 loaves of date-nut bread, 26 pimiento cheese sandwiches, 1 sweet potato souffle, 1 bowl of vegetable dip, 1 honey-bun cake, 1 bowl of frozen-fruit salad, 12 lemon-poppyseed muffins, 12 chocolate-chocolate-chip muffins, 1 crockpot o’ grits, and 1 pot of Southern-style butterbeans. Obviously, I have no inspiration to plan this coming week’s meals for our family of four.
- R went #1 in the potty for the very first time!
- I watched Mamma Mia for the first time ever on Christmas Eve Eve — LOVED it. The next morning, Ken snuck away and bought a copy of ABBA’s greatest hits for my stocking. (Big time brownie points.)
More did happen, of course, but my post-holiday-meal head fog has prevented my brain from recalling any more.
How were your holidays?!

Sounds packed with memories and I really wanted to watch mama mia but didn’t have anyone to take our kids and well I don’t drive at night :) So I’ve rented it!
