A very warm day and two more countdown activities….

We spent most of yeserday baking. Somehow I was able to bake four types of cookies to take to friends and get it all done in a little over one day….somehow! I guess I chose foolproof, uncomplicated recipes this time around. The temperatures outside also hovered around a very unseasonable 70 degrees, so we spent much of the afternoon outside.

We had so much fun, in fact, that I completely forgot that we were supposed to go sit in Santa Claus’s lap for photos at the church. There was only a small window of time that he’d be there, and by the time I remembered, the kids were filthy with dirt, mud and sand and we were all three exhausted. Major OOPS!   I had to apologize to them….and G was sad at first….but then he said, “It’s alright. I don’t think I would want to sit in Santa Claus’s lap anyway, Mommy. I would rather sit in Daddy’s lap.” We’re still going to try and track Santa down sometime before Christmas, just for a quick snapshot (with or without the kids in his lap — last year we had to trick them into sitting there!).

We made peppermint playdough….just a regular homemade playdough recipe with peppermint extract added in, as well as some drops of blue food color and some glitter. I was afraid the glitter would be lost in the dough….but I was mistaken….it was so pretty! We have it stored in the fridge for play for later.

I also pulled out all of our past-year Christmas cards received and chose a few I didn’t mind being used for crafting….the kids cut out images, shapes, and patterns and made collages. This kept them occupied this morning while I prepared their lunches.

It was a fun, albeit busy, day.  It was SO nice to get outside and play for a few hours after almost a solid week of rain and clouds.  R and I couldn’t stop sneezing tonight, though….I wonder if it’s something in the air or a cold coming on (I’m hoping the former!).

Awesome ideas! I love the peppermint playdough…I’ve heard of other scents but hadn’t thought of peppermint yet for some reason.

By the way…would you be interested in this? http://www.bosssanders.com/2008/12/18/creative-geniuses-or-something-like-that/
