A.W.O.L. gingerbread!

I just had to share the cute activity Grandmama (Ken’s mom) planned for the kids yesterday morning. She had bought them these two wonderful books to add to our Christmas book collection:
Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett

and
The Gingerbread Girl by Lisa Campbell Ernst

They got to work creating humongous versions of the stories’ characters:

Then baked them, thinking they could eat them right away!

When they came back a few minutes later, though, the found an empty oven….and a note left by the gingerbread folks:

That note led them to another….and another….and another…. Grandmama had fashioned one fine scavenger hunt, and the kids (especially G) really got into the fun. The last note said that the gingerbread people had seen the light on in the outdoor shop and decided they wanted to do some woodwork. This is where the kids found them!

What a neat way to bring a story to life….literally!

Grandmama taught kindergarten for over 15 years….can you tell? Thanks, Grandmama, for a fun, mischievous morning chasing gingerbread people!
