WFMW – Rainy day fun

I know this idea is not original….but it sure does work for us!

My husband brought home a shabby suitcase a while back — and I knew just the use for it: A rainy day suitcase!

I began (slowly) putting things into it….nothing too exciting yet. I don’t want to spend money purposefully for the suitcase contents….I would rather keep my eye open for unique items or bargains and slowly accumulate cool stuff. Thankfully, though, we had a modest assortment of things built up, and for the first time in, oh, maybe two months here, it RAINED on Monday.

G knew what that meant — time to pull out the rainy day suitcase!

He wasn’t interested in the new things I’d placed in there since our last rainy day….instead he pulled out a favorite board game and our set of jacks. It’s funny what kids gravitate to first!

What’s in our suitcase currently?

- New books
- New DVD
- Extra tea set
- Paper toys
Paper toys
- Blank puzzles to color
- Richard Scarry’s Best Rainy Day Book Ever
- Vintage repro paper dolls
Paper dolls
(R and I had fun with these dolls — they were more intended for us girls, anyway! I’m a sucker for paper dolls — especially vintage ones — and it looks like she’s like her mama in that respect!)

I LOVE this idea! I need to produce some more babies so I can make one : ) because my 8 year old is always at school when it is raining! I am so glad you shared this! What fun!

LOVE it! We have a rainy day closet (http://eringoodman.com/blog/?s=rainy+day+closet)at our house and I am always looking for new ideas of things to add to it!!!

Off to check out the Richard Scarry book…

I’ve had this on my list of projects for awhile now, thanks for the great links and inspiration!

what a great idea!

Neat! I think we need to make a “Mom’s having a bad day and doesn’t want you to climb on her” suitcase here. :)

So, so COOL!!!
I simply have to try this idea.
It makes a great home for the overflow toys that you don’t really want to throw away but seem redundant!

Hope it rains again soon! Have a good day.
