We’re done. We stood in the line for almost 2 hours — in the cold wind — but we voted! And we made a couple of friends. And had a few laughs. They ran out of stickers at the end, but that’s okay. We aren’t planning on hunting down any of the free stuff tonight, anyway. (Although rumor has it that some people are re-thinking that incentive and having to make amends.)
This is only the 3rd presidential election I’ve taken part in. In 2000, Ken was away on a business trip, and so my sister and I stayed up way too late and watched the events unfold. In 2004, I was a new mommy (our firstborn was only 7 weeks or so old), and so Ken and his brother stayed up to watch — I passed them groggily as I lumbered back and forth from our bedroom to G’s room for middle-of-the-night feedings. This year, Ken and I will be able to watch history happen together, in our own living room, surrounded by friends. Should make for an entertaining evening.
