Pumpkins, day one.

Yesterday was bitterly cold. Well, “cold” in the Southern sense of the word, anyway. The high was in the 50s and the winds were pretty torrential, which equals miserable for cold-natured folks like myself. The kids and I got brave enough to venture outside after naptime, and we braved the winds for a little over an hour. G, like his dad, seemed unaffected by the cold. On the other hand, poor R and I had red noses and partially frozen earlobes.

We took our reading to the play fort today, continuing on in our quest through Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We have zipped right through this book. I am just tickled beyond words that the kids will sit still and listen to chapter books now. This opens up a whole new world.

We chased the sun wherever it went. G snagged my camera and snapped some pictures of his sister…

I doodled some Halloween-themed characters on the pavement, then the kids went in behind me and added their own details and accessories.

We made some pumpkin bread, and I must say, absolute perfection is walking out of the cold and into a house that has the lingering smells of cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. The recipe I found made six small loaves….four for us,

…and two to surprise friends with, to be delivered after dinner.

We bundled up for an evening trip to the local pumpkin patch. The kids chose their pumpkins for decorating later this week, plus two more tiny ones we just couldn’t pass up.
