My mom has always done this. I even have a cookbook that I had as a kid that has some of her notes in it. :)

Some of my favorite books are cookbooks from estate sales - all of the notes and adjustments. My favorite recipe from my grandmother is a handwritten note card and it starts off - 25 cents hamburger. lol

I started writing in only one of my cookbooks so far - but it certainly is VERY helpful.
Come by my place today to see how you can Cruise through the Holidays, in my WFMW.
Have a Great Day!

Great idea! I also put a paper clip on the page where a tried and true recipe is, so that I don't have to search the index for it. So often a recipe is named something different than what I would call it.

awesome idea to write on the cookbook, one day your daughter (and maybe G too) will love to see your handwritten notes!

And there's no shame in collecting cookbooks! Sometimes, I just like to peruse the cookbooks I have and drool over all the yummy things I COULD make but don't have to!

While I love this idea in theory, I would have to 1) get over my feeling that writing in books is some sort of desecration--logically, I don't think it is, I just get all goofy about actually thinking of doing it--and 2) figure out a good time to do this when my daughter wouldn't see it, lest she think I'm taking back my house rule of not writing in books.

Maybe I could use post-it notes?

This is such a great idea. My Mammaw used to do this and now that she is gone I love going through and reading her little notes when I start missing her. I do the same thing in my cookbooks. I hope it will be a memory for my boys one day.
