We’ve been wanting to try “spin art” for a long time! It’s been in my “to do” folder for months. The original idea and inspiration stemmed from The Brassy Apple — they have a fantastic tutorial on spin art. Suddenly, when a theme came up that needed a bit of stretching for ideas (“stars”), I realized I could fit it in, and voila, spin art stars were born.
We simply used an old salad spinner. You can get these things for under five bucks.
I cut paper circles to fit the interior, then on the back of each, traced a large star.
We grabbed a tote full of old craft acrylic paints (the squirt bottle varieties are recommended for this project) and squeezed away. I realized that I need to go shopping for more — the color picks were weird (all from past random craft endeavors) and a few of them were gloopy and old. Oh, well. The kids didn’t seem to mind!
We put it inside a plastic tub (yet another use for this hospital basin!) for — G’s favorite part — the spinning!
Stunning results! The kids were giddy.
A few of the metallic paints shone out. Next time, maybe we’ll try all metallic hues — and maybe colored paper!
As I cut out the stars, we marveled at how pretty they were. So many other shapes and paper crafty things could be made with this method! My wheels are turning….
