So, we’re still bound by this nagging, persistent cold. Oh, this isn’t the same cold we all had three weeks ago. This is a new cold. A brand new one. One we obviously weren’t immune to. So we have it again. (Well, my husband and both kids do. I am still downing Vitamin C like a mad woman while playing nursemaid for all three.)
Yes, today was a bit of a challenge. A testament to what “motherhood” really is. I canceled two sets of plans when I realized that the kids were in no condition to accompany me on errands. I found myself resorting to Dora as a form of non-interactive entertainment at a time other than “dinner-making crunch time.” As I showered tonight, I realized it was the first shower I’d had since Sunday. I know. Needless to say, I’ve had other things on my mind lately.
Since we were pretty much holed up inside, imagine my surprise (and excitement) when we realized the neighbors had some sort of sewer/power line/cable/internet/electricity dilemma. What did that mean in the kids’ language? Big construction vehicles in action — right across the street! We became spectators of the digging and such for half an hour. I wonder if these guys had ever had such avid onlookers before.
I used my ever-friendly Crock-Pot once again to save the day at lunchtime — chicken noodle soup. I baked up some whole wheat heart-shaped muffins to seal the deal. Not much was eaten by either, but I’m convinced it helped a little. If not so much to ease some colds, at least to brighten some spirits.
