When I came across Plum Pudding’s amazing looking Play-Doh cookies, I just knew I had to make these with the kids. A stormy afternoon that kept us inside and puttering around the kitchen for something to make — just the right time to pull this idea out!
Though all I had in the house was light cream cheese (not “real”) and gel food coloring (not paste), these cookies still turned out tasty and very pretty. Like with most of my sugar cookies, I added a dot of almond extract, too, for a flavor twist. G loved helping me mix in the colors.
The actual twisting and swirling of the dough was a bit beyond the children’s years (and patience), so Ken and I did this part while the kids played with the dough just like Play-Doh — squashing it, rolling it, pricking it with toothpicks.
They baked up fluffy and soft, cake-like and yummy.
