We finished Australia today in a laid-back way. We did some Aboriginal dot painting, which the kids semi-enjoyed (their attention spans wouldn’t hold long filling in such large spaces with tiny dots). We had fun simply painting, nonetheless; we haven’t pulled our paints out in two weeks.
I felt a little cutsie/creative and used a template similar to this one to create little paper Kanga with Joey, too, just for fun.
We read Katy No-Pocket, a fun little story (way fictional) that tells about a kangaroo who is searching for other ways to carry her son since she’s missing a pouch.
Believe it or not, my dad owns a Pith helmet and let us borrow it for a few days. It swallows the kids’ heads entirely, but we set it up for display and enjoyed looking at it at least!
We sadly packed up our Australian continent box and books today (we loved this unit!) and began to prepare for our new unit on Asia. I had narrowed it down to five countries for us to learn about/concentrate on this week. Strangely, I found hardly any information, activities, or books about India or Russia, so we will mainly be concentrating on China, South Korea, and Japan (between these three, there is MORE than enough to keep us busy).
If you have any ideas, tips, links, or recommendations pertaining to these countries, feel free to share.
