Today’s tip came out of necessity. The kids have a lot of bath toys. I mean, a LOT. Mostly my fault; I just love buying bath toys as well as giving them tossed-out kitchen utensils (funnels, whisks) to use and experiment with….it’s so fun!
I’m sure you all know how gunky bath toys can get after a while. We even put them in the mesh hanging bag when we’re done (well, most nights….). They still end up with that soapy, dull, filmy residue that makes me nervous. Especially when our littlest puts all of them in her mouth!
I wash most of the big toys (cups, boats) in the top rack of the dishwasher about every couple of months. But what about all of those little tiny toys? The mini water guns….the small plastic sea creatures….the little spoons….the foam bathtub wall letters?
I just toss them all into my lingerie laundry bag, much like this one. Zipped up, they’re secure inside and can withstand a hefty wash (top rack only) in your dishwasher. The water and soap can permeate the bag very well, and it rinses well, too (which I wondered about). If you’re like me and have an extra-sanitizing cycle on your dishwasher, you can feel even better about how clean those toys get.
Another use for a common household item….I feel kind of like a Real Simple magazine contributor! :0)

I wish I had a dishwasher! I’ll definitely keep this idea in mind when I finally do get one.

That’s an awesome idea. Now I just need a dishwasher!

I don’t know why I’ve never thought of putting bath toys in the dishwasher to clean them. What a great idea.

why not just pop them in the steriliser saves money being wasted on a dishwasher!!!

SO SMART. My hubby and I were just talking about the need to clean the bath toys more often. I don’t have a sterilizer, but I do have a dishwasher. ;)
