Not my hairline, thank goodness. I’m regressing in time. You see, I just found out that I will join thousands of other middle and high schoolers in the time-aged art of getting braces put on my teeth. I’m not so thrilled about the braces themselves, but I’m glad that this just might be the ticket to relieve my jaw pain and get rid of these pesky migraines I’ve been having. I figure one year of inconvenience will pay off if I have sixty or more headache-free years after that.
I know all about what’s going to happen. I wore braces for three years in high school. Evidently the wisdom teeth had other plans about keeping my teeth straight. By the time I was a year into marriage, my teeth (mainly bottom teeth) looked almost like they did before those metal brackets were glued onto my pearly whites. Trying not to ask all of the “what if’s” and just dealing with the news that has been handed to me!
So, now the age-old question is whether or not it’s worth it to pay extra for clear brackets. They’ll still be noticeable, but not as blatant as the silver. You can betcha bottom dollar, though, that this time I’ll stick to clear rubber bands and plastic spacers….no more “T.L. Hanna black and gold” or “Clemson homecoming weekend purple and orange” for this gal. I mean, I’m festive and all that, but c’mon. I want to look like the mother of my two children….not their much older sister.
I’m scouting the crowds now for adults who also don these expensive tooth-straightening systems…in hopes that I’m not the only one in my age group who will be wearing these suckers for the next 10-12 months. Maybe I should start a support group….something like, “Cope Group for Adults Who are Twice-Metal-Mouthed,” or “Support Group for Self-Consciously but Still-Smiling Moms.”
In other news, I am overrun with a slew of tomatoes….more on the way. Don’t get me wrong…I love them. It’s just that I can’t possibly eat them all before they rot. I would love a recipe for delicious homemade fresh tomato marinara sauce. Anyone have one?
Gardner and I picked blueberries this morning from Ken’s brother Jason and his wife Kelly’s orchard. Rainey sat in her stroller and watched from the sidelines, wishing she could be part of the fun (next year, sweetie!). Gardner got tired of picking after he’d bagged about 30, so I finished while he wandered in and among the rest of the gardens. It is such a wonderful feeling to have loving family members who invite you to share in their bounties of produce! I love the feeling I get when I pass by the $2.00/pint blueberries at Publix. I just smile and keep on walking. :0)

My good friend that I grew up with in church just got the clear braces…and I hardly notice them…:) Good luck on your choice….but I would agree 1 year of braces definitely beats out 60 yrs of migraines. I pray this corrects all of that for you.
